Bringing the Delta to Simpson County
There were eggs and Easter bunnies, but I wasn’t home this past Friday; in fact, I was bringing the Delta to Simpson County. The lovely MacAlpin House served as a perfect setting to Tea in the Gardens in Magee, MS. I would love to pass this wonderful spring day onto you, with a few photos of my favorite moments from this sunny stop on my Eat Drink Delta “book tour.”
These Magee ladies put out a spread worthy of the pages of Southern Living that could have probably fed the entire state of Mississippi! They did all of the floral arrangements themselves too.
Time for me to join in the fun by making tea cakes for the cooking demo! I had some great student volunteers too.
Another new friend posed with the biggest hit of the buffet: orange-colored pastries filled with chicken salad and garnished with kale to resemble carrots…clever!
With finger sandwiches galore, lunch was served, quite scrumptiously. A visit with the Easter bunny was the icing on the cake for this festive event at which I was privileged to meet and sign books for some wonderful Mississippians. If you have an event in mind like this one, I would love to attend. Please see my contact information page, and we will be in touch.
These were the official Easter greeters! Mrs. Rabbit’s heirloom gown is courtesy of one of Magee’s notable citizens who was married in it more than 50 years ago.
(Left) Here we have a layered sandwich loaf covered in cream cheese and decorated with edible pansies!
(Below) What a treat! Blackberry and jam topped cream cheese with ginger snaps.
I had some great student volunteers too. Here are my tea cake assistants in action.
