My mom and I arrived in Jackson on Friday and it has been a nonstop yak-a-thon ever since! I grew up here, but we’ve both lived in metro Atlanta for many years and don’t get back often enough to visit. So when the great Lemuria bookstore agreed to host my very first book signing of Eat Drink Delta, we were both thrilled — in large part to have a good excuse to reunite with my peeps.
In the few days I have been here I have already nearly worn out my vocal chords catching up with friends from various phases of my past — Tricia, Elizabeth and David from Callaway High School, Brooks from Ole Miss (and the Delta!), Leila and Marcia from Meridian, Susan and Mike from the Clarion-Ledger, my mom’s longtime friend Elizabeth. And more are coming today! We ditched our idea of going out to dinner to just hang out and order out pizza one night, and cook chili the next. And gab and gab and gab. My kind of entertainment!
Yesterday, Tricia, who lives in Brandon, and I took a drive down Memory Lane into the city and stopped by Lemuria, to find out the game plan for my signing Monday night. I haven’t been there since I was a kid and it was located across the street in Highland Village. The new location is fantastic, jammed with great titles and buzzing with activity, and I could have spent the whole day brousing. The people who work there could not be friendlier, and my heart lurched when I saw my book displayed prominently at the register.
